Elder Charles R. Lyle Sr. accepted Christ in His fullness at age 21 on April Fool’s Day, 1979—“the day he fooled the devil.” Having overcome drug and alcohol addiction through the grace of God, he uses his life experiences to mentor and guide young people, teaching them that with God, all things are possible to those who believe.

Born April 3, 1957, Elder Lyle holds the equivalent of a master’s degree in various studies and completed three years in Secondary Education Mathematics. He joined the U.S. Army in 1976 and served for over 30 years. While stationed in Germany, he served in multiple leadership roles, including Youth Pastor, Youth Department President, Home and Foreign Mission President, and Jurisdiction Adjutant. He later pastored First Spirit Filled C.O.G.I.C. and founded There Is Hope C.O.G.I.C., both of which ministered to soldiers and their families overseas.

Elder Lyle has served faithfully under the late Superintendent Dave Draper Sr., Assisted Superintendent Elton Draper, Superintendent L.L. Roberts, and as Administrative Assistant to Dr. Reginald L. Roberts I. He later assisted Dr. L.L. Roberts at Living Hope and was appointed Pastor by Bishop O.L. Meadows, Presiding Bishop of the First Jurisdiction of Alabama.

He holds a B.S. in Business Administration Management from Columbia College (Columbia, Missouri) and an A.S. in Industrial Electronics Technology from J.F. Drake State Technical College (Huntsville, Alabama). He also served as Student Government Association Vice President from 2008–2010 and is certified as a Private Investor through Penn College. Above all, Elder Lyle is saved, sanctified, filled with the Holy Ghost, and deeply loves Jesus and the people of God.

He is well known for his encouraging words:
“Be Encouraged!”

FIRST LADY

SHERRY FINNEY LYLE

Sherry Finney Lyle is a humble servant of the Lord. Born in Fort Eustis, Virginia as an Army child, she spent her formative years in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She accepted Christ at a young age and became an active member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith, faithfully serving in youth choirs and auxiliaries. In January 1978, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia to continue her college education.

While living in Atlanta, Sherry became a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church North, where she felt the Holy Spirit calling her to move beyond being a “pew member” and actively serve. What she thought was a wrong turn into a classroom led her to Dr. Vivian Hicks’ Bible study on Ruth—an encounter that deeply inspired and affirmed her calling. During her time at Antioch, Sherry served with Meals on Wheels, ministered to the homeless and elderly, and worked with the youth. She later relocated to Huntsville, Alabama in 2003 to marry Elder Charles R. Lyle Sr., Pastor of Living Hope COGIC “Recovery Room” in Decatur, Alabama.

After moving to Huntsville, Sherry became a faithful member of Bible Way Worship Center COGIC under Dr. Reginald L. Roberts. Her education and career included training as a Laboratory Technician, working in hospitals and private laboratories, which sparked a passion for health education. Through prayer and study, she began researching medical conditions and natural wellness approaches, leading to opportunities to host seminars on high blood pressure, diabetes, and healthy living. Through this work, Sherry recognized one of the gifts God had entrusted to her—helping individuals take an active role in their own health.

Sherry attended the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith, Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, and Clark Atlanta University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Community Health with a specialty certification in Geriatrics. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling at the University of North Alabama. Sherry has been blessed to serve others through mentorship, healthy living education, self-esteem development, premarital and marriage counseling, and youth empowerment. She is passionate about working alongside her husband in ministry and using her gifts to advance the Kingdom of God.
